‘Tit for tat’ Attitude in dealing with School Violence

School violence has been increasing day by day at an enormous rate since the last decade. Media is reporting on such cases everyday where the students are fought and found dead in the shooting. What is the root cause of such incidents? What is the contribution of the society in dealing with it?

The answer to the first question is that most of the students who are found guilty of the violent acts in the school campus have a very tragic background. They experience depression at home and develop aggressive behaviour by looking at their parents fight. The language used by these people is not clean and involve excessive use of abusive words. Kids grasp very quickly and they would learn from the environment around them. They vent their frustration on the people at schools and other places resulting in the increase in aggressive behaviour. They tend to spoil other kids around them by their actions and words. At moments when there is an emotional outburst the aggression can lead to several consequences.

Sending the students with violent behaviour to juvenile jails or rusticating them from the schools is not a solution as this would spoil their future and increase anger and hatred in them. Children should be handled carefully as it is a very sensitive issue and efforts should be made to work on this issue. Acting so rudely on the children would make them become more aggressive and there is an increased probability that they can become an anti social element in near future.

The ‘tit-for-tat’ attitude of the school authorities by sending the students to jail should not be opted. They should be provided with enough love and affection to overcome their problems and issues. A proper session with the psychiatrist and counselling can help them understand what factors are responsible in increasing terror and contribute to the school violence.

Rehab camps would be perfect to monitor such students and bring them back to normal lives. These centres treat people with high levels of depression and pain. Anger is a very dangerous emotion and it is the core cause of destruction in most of the issues. The outburst of anger if controlled can solve most of the problems and anger management is important. Anger is also used as a defence mechanism. Excess anger is not good for ones health and also to others associated with the person.

It is important to gain trust of the affected child in order to render useful help to them. Jails are used to change the mentality of a criminal so that they don’t repeat the offence. Children at young age would be easy for their thought to change and imprinting new memories in their mind is an easy task. Instead of sending them to jail, a constant effort from the counsellors and teachers along with the parents can shape up the thoughts of the affected child instead of sending them to juvenile jails and spoiling their career and lives.
